Warming Up

So Tuesday is here and we can't wait to get you and ourselves in the mood for crafting. Warming up and stretching your muscles before exercising is crucial. Same goes for crafting! Being in the mood and feeling inspired helps build your way to finding your inner creative self.

This week's project requires the following materials:

  • A picture frame (we're using IKEA's FISKBO 10x15cm)
  • Plain cardstock cut to fit your frame size
  • Watercolour Pencils + Brush (FABER CASTELL is the brand we're using here. you can use any brand you wish or skip the watercolour pencils and use acrylic paint)
  • A pair of scissors
  • Jute twine or any thick yarn/thread
  • A pencil and a fine/medium point marker
  • An embroidery needle
  • Hole piercer (optional)

All set?! Let's get crafty! Think of a quote or saying you'd like to work with. Something that inspires you, gives you hope or positive vibes.

If you're feeling a bit lost, here are some examples to guide you:

"Let the sea set you free"

"When it rains look for rainbows"

"Stars can't shine without darkness"

"Be like a tree. Stay grounded, keep growing and know when to let go"

"Bloom where you are planted"

Once you've settled on one, start thinking of a colour palette for your background.

I am working with the first quote "Let the sea set you free" so i decided to give my background a sea like feel. I used shades of blue, green and a touch of purple.

Wet your brush and start blending your colours together gently. when you're done, allow to completely dry before moving on to the next step

On the back of your cardstock, draw an outline of anything you feel goes with the quote you are using. A Heart, star, moon, mountain, a hand, a leaf...etc. Have a look at your quote and let it guide your imagination.

After you're done drawing your outline, pierce around it as shown above using a hole piercer (if using) or your embroidery needle. leave about 1cm between each hole.

Using your needle and jute twine carefully go in and out along the outline.

Once again make another round with your twine around your outline to completely fill it up as you can see above.

Add any kind of effect you'd like to your outline or keep it as is. I made random lines haphazardly. Go WILD and CREATIVE! And Let your quote guide you!

Finally add your quote or leave it to interpretation. The choice is all yours. On last thing, don't forget to share  with us how yours turns out!

Happy Crafting!
